Mitchell Hits 2 Roundtrippers, Rays Win, 4-1
|
The Tampa Bay Rays trumped the Kansas City Royals, 4-1, at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay first baseman Dan Mitchell was terrific. He hit 2 home runs. The winner was Nate Sandoval, who threw 95 pitches over 5.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. The American League East Division-leading Rays have a record of 42-36.
With Tampa Bay leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Mitchell hit a fastball from Dominic Camp for a solo home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Rays ahead, 2-0.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Tampa Bay manager Joey Cora.
