Mets Need Extra Innings to Top Firebirds, 5-4
The New York Mets faced a tough opponent in Atlanta pitcher Les Hampson, but still scratched out a win at Citi Field by a final score of 5-4 in 11 innings. Hampson went 6.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. Travis Ballew picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Joel Nelson suffered the loss. With the win over Atlanta, the Mets improved to 30-49.

The Mets got a clutch hit from catcher Reese McGuire. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Mets.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Raul Dominguez.
