Reds Grind Out 2-1 Win
The Cincinnati Reds defeated the New York Yankees, 2-1, in National League action at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati pitcher Bert Gooderston had a standout performance. Gooderston, now 6-4, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The Reds improved their record to 36-44 with the win over New York.

The Reds got a big at-bat from first baseman Diory Paulino. For the game, Paulino was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the second, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.

"The effort we put into this one paid off," Gooderston said.
