The San Diego Padres topped the Chicago Cubs by a score of 12-8. Leading the way was catcher Brit McDonald. McDonald was 2-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Padres. San Diego reliever Domynguos Venegas was the winner. His record is now 2-6. Jim Kemp took the loss. San Diego is now 39-46, while Chicago is 40-48.

San Diego needed the clutch hitting of Jorge Zaragoza to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Padres on top, 10-8. For the game, Zaragoza had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
