Boston Earns 8-7 Win
Despite a fine performance by center fielder Bryce Harper, the Washington Nationals lost to the Boston Red Sox, 8-7. Harper went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ed Goodwin picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Robbie McJannett, who finished 5th in the NL in saves with 29 in 2022, was tagged with the loss. Boston, at 52-37, is 2½ games up in the American League East Division.

Boston needed the clutch hitting of Patrick Vitzhum to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 8-7. For the game, Vitzhum had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Boston skipper Alvin Morman.
