The New York Mets topped the Kansas City Royals, 6-3, at Kauffman Stadium. New York right fielder Jim Hayes was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Travis Ballew earned his 10th save in 13 chances. The win has New York at 35-61.

New York catcher Reese McGuire helped the Mets go up, 3-2, in the top of the seventh inning. With the game tied, McGuire hit a run-scoring single off Kansas City pitcher Kevin Martin.

"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said McGuire.
