Padres Lose By a Run at St. Louis
|
The St. Louis Cardinals converted a terrific effort from starter Ken Nicholson into a win over the San Diego Padres at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals won the game by a final score of 3-2. Nicholson yielded 1 run over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. His record improves to 6-7. The last-place Cardinals are now 48-58, the Padres 49-56.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from left fielder Zak Taylor. For the game, Taylor was 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 18th double of the season gave St. Louis a 3-1 lead.
"It's nice to get the results when you're feeling good and throwing the ball well," said Nicholson after the game.
