Russell Swings Angels to 6-0 Win
|
The Los Angeles Angels dealt the Tampa Bay Rays a 6-0 loss at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Addison Russell, who finished 3rd in the AL in hits with 196 in 2021, was the star on offense. He was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Fred Cove was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he yielded no runs on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. The Angels own a robust 76-38 mark.
Myron Gómes had a big 2-run double for the Angels in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Eric Cartwright and swatted a double to right. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Angels ahead, 3-0.
"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Russell told the Los Angeles Observer.
