The Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox, 3-1, at Fenway Park. Starting pitcher Tony Nava was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The winner was Nava. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was José Castaneda. Terence McCray closed the door for Boston, picking up his 35th save of the year.
The Red Sox got a big at-bat from designated hitter Patrick Vitzhum. For the game, Vitzhum went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 13th home run of the season gave Boston a 2-0 lead.
"We busted our tails," said Chicago manager Morgan Ensberg. "But we came up short."
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Boston.
