Nationals Pin 4-0 Loss on Oakland
|
The Washington Nationals downed the Oakland Athletics, 4-0, at Nationals Park. Stellar pitching by Ty Buttrey had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in wins with 11, handcuffed his opponent all game. Buttrey, the winner, moves to 11-7. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. With the win, Washington upped its record to 65-50.
Jeremy Austin had a big run-scoring double for the Nationals in the bottom of the second inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Jacob Turner, who finished 2nd in the NL in wins with 16 in 2020, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 34th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nationals ahead, 2-0.
"Ty did a good job mixing and matching," said Washington manager Mark Grudzielanek.
