The New York Yankees beat the Houston Astros, 9-6, at Yankee Stadium. Israel Ávila, in particular, was impressive. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Shawn Harris notched his 3rd save in 5 chances. The setback makes Houston 44-72.

The Astros had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Yankees going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Joe Wallace came to the plate. Wallace hit a bases-clearing double on a 1-0 fastball from Houston hurler Blake Snell. It was Wallace's 8th double of the year.

"Their at-bats were really impressive against us," said losing manager Manny Acta.
