Washington Wins, 4-3, Over Giants
|
Washington beat San Francisco on the strength of starting pitcher Kirk Griffith's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Robbie McJannett earned his 25th save, after closing out the game. With the victory, the Nationals upped their record to 66-50.
Mathies Reuter, who finished 2nd in the NL in doubles with 45 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Reuter contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th inning to put Washington up, 4-3.
Reuter attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
