Kansas City turned a good performance from starting pitcher Ken Walker into a 5-1 triumph over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Walker, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. The losses continue to mount for Minnesota, which has now dropped 9 in a row.
Ismaldo Rodriguez had a big 2-run home run for the Royals in the top of the fourth inning. With Kansas City leading 3-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Adys Portillo, who is tied for 8th in the AL with a 1.12 WHIP, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Royals on top, 5-1.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Kansas City manager Jim Tracy.
