Royals Raise Rally Flag, Beat Chicago, 5-4
|
Chicago got a valiant performance from pitcher Jeff Branch, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City won the game, 5-4. Branch threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Kansas City reliever Kevin Martin was the winner. His record is now 7-8. The losing pitcher was Trey Supak. Shigochiyo Ohayashi wrapped it up, recording his 3rd save.
Had Cliff Jones not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Jones hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Royals.
"This was a good win," said Jones.
The loss makes Chicago 56-63.
