Peña drives in 5 runs, Leads Tigers to Win
|
The Detroit Tigers downed the Los Angeles Angels, 8-4. The hitting star was designated hitter António Peña. Peña went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Tigers. Shawn Cummings, the winner, improved to 15-3. He held the Angels to 3 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 4. The first-place Tigers, at 71-48, lead the American League Central Division by 7 games.
With Detroit trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Peña hit a sinker from John Gant for a grand slam home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Tigers ahead, 5-2.
"It makes it a little nicer in the clubhouse when we win," said Peña. "It eases the tension."
