The Chicago White Sox picked up a win at Wrigley Field, dropping the Chicago Cubs, 3-2. Mike Kelly, who finished 4th in the AL in innings pitched with 207.0 last year, was the difference-maker. Kelly, now 12-8, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Chicago raised its record to 65-60 with the win.
An inflection point occurred with one out in the top of the sixth. That's when White Sox center fielder Byron Buxton hit a curveball from Mariano Ortega for a 2-run single. Just like that, Chicago was up, 3-2.
Kelly called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
