Red Sox Snatch Late-Game, 9-8 Win
Red Sox left fielder Dave Hopper left his mark on his team's 9-8 win over the Miami Marlins. Hopper, who finished 5th in the NL in OPS with 1.028 in 2021, went 2-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for Boston in the contest. The winner in relief was Terence McCray. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-8. Boston is now 73-60, 3 games up in the American League East Division.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Steve Potter came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Miami pitcher Joe Malone, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boston on top, 9-8.

"We just battled, never quit, and continued to grind out at-bats trying to create some opportunities," said Boston manager Alvin Morman.
