Cardinals Rally Late to Clip Pittsburgh
|
The St. Louis Cardinals did just enough to sneak past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4, at Busch Stadium. St. Louis pitcher Ed Franklin, in particular, had a standout performance. Reliever Carlos A. Salazar picked up the win. His record improves to 7-5. Joe Kaiser, who is a two-time All-Star, took the loss. St. Louis goes to 56-80, Pittsburgh to 76-61.
Bob Wolfe was the walk-off hero for St. Louis. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It's great when the crowd is energized," Wolfe said.
