In 7.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Washington improves to 78-60 with the win. They lead their division by 4½ games.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from first baseman Greg Bird. For the game, Bird went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 18th home run of the season gave Washington a 3-0 lead.
