In a tight affair between the Detroit Tigers and the New York Mets, pitcher Cam Adkins was in the zone. The Detroit right-hander helped his team win the game, 1-0. Adkins, now 6-6, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 10, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Clarence Rice converted his 36th save in 41 tries.

In the bottom of the second inning of a 0-0 tie, Detroit catcher Johandry Cortez reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run. It broke the deadlock and put Detroit on top, 1-0.

"Cam was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said Detroit manager Robert Carson.

The victory gives Detroit a record of 83-56.
