Boston catcher Dan Combs had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Combs went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, even as Cleveland beat the Red Sox, 6-5. Cleveland is 57-79 and Boston, with the loss, 79-60.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Juan Martínez came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Boston pitcher Terence McCray, he hit a 2-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 6-5.
"We earned that one," said Martínez.
