The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Seattle Mariners, 4-1, in part because of catcher Buster Posey. Posey went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Rays. Joe Montgomery closed out the game, earning his 32nd save. With the win, Tampa Bay goes to 67-70, while the Mariners fall to 73-65.

Center Fielder Jesús Pacheco made an impact for Tampa Bay, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Artie Caines in the bottom of the second. For the contest, Pacheco went 3-4 with a triple and a double.

"The other side took advantage in some key situations," said Seattle manager Jeff Banister.
