The first-place Boston Red Sox took on the Cleveland Guardians in front of a spirited crowd.

Behind an impressive start by Phil Christopher, Boston beat Cleveland, 7-1. The American League East Division-leading Red Sox are 80-60.

The Red Sox got a big at-bat from center fielder Steve Potter. For the game, Potter went 1-4 with a triple and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 4th triple of the season gave Boston a 2-1 lead.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Boston manager Alvin Morman.
