Nationals Fall Short, 1-0, at New York
|
New York pitcher Franklin E. Perez did his part in helping his team defeat the Washington Nationals, 1-0. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Perez got the win, improving to 7-8. He gave up 2 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. He allowed no runs. Travis Ballew was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 22 of 26 save opportunities.
Dustin Peterson went 2 for 3 with 2 singles for New York. The 31-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Steve Moss. It was his 33rd RBI of the season.
"Some games build character," said New York manager Raul Dominguez. "Like this one."
The win puts New York at 55-98.
