Texas Upended by Miami, 2-1
|
Fans watched the Miami Marlins and the Texas Rangers fight to the finish.
The Texas Rangers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. into a win. Instead, the Miami Marlins prevailed, 2-1. McCullers Jr. threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Robby Parkinson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 13 save opportunities.
Sam Jones, who finished 4th in the AL in doubles with 41 in 2021, had a direct impact on the outcome. Jones contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Miami up, 2-1.
"Tough loss," said Texas manager Ron Robinson. "This one will sting for a while."
Miami improves to 94-61 with the win. They lead their division by 10½ games.
