The Boston Red Sox used a stellar performance from pitcher Ted Burton to throttle the Tampa Bay offense en route to an extra-inning, 2-0 win at Tropicana Field. Boston improves to 89-67 with the win. They lead their division by 5 games.

Boston used the timely hitting of Kevin Plawecki to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Red Sox manager Alvin Morman.
