Washington pitcher Mike Adkins had a large part in his team beating the Chicago White Sox, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Adkins, now 8-12, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Robbie McJannett was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 35 of 41 save opportunities.

Oscar Hernandez, who led the NL in RBI with 142 in 2019, helped out the Washington cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the catcher drove in one run.

"We were in it," said Chicago manager Fredi Gonzalez. "We just didn't score enough runs."

With the win over Chicago, the Nationals improved to 86-76.
