Cardinals Deal Tampa Bay 6-2 Defeat
|
Fans of the St. Louis Cardinals who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a St. Louis win over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays, 6-2. Jim Rose started for the home team against Kevin Murray. Kevin Murray earned accolades for his performance.
In the bottom of the second, St. Louis shortstop Juan Álvarez had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Álvarez stroked a run-scoring single to left-center. It made the score 2-0, St. Louis. For the game, he was 1-4.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Álvarez, "and then get after the next one."
