Minnesota got a terrific game from first baseman Yasiel Puig. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Seattle, 9-7. Puig was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The winner was Seattle reliever José Alomar, now 1-0. The loser was Pat Calhoun. The Mariners, now 2-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.

The Twins had been locked in a 7-7 tie with the Mariners going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging left fielder Michael Choice came to the plate. Choice hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 curveball from Minnesota hurler Pat Calhoun. It was Choice's 1st double of the year.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Choice told the Seattle Gazette.
