Salinas, Blue Jays Beat Astros, 9-1
The Toronto Blue Jays ushered in the 2026 season with a win versus the Houston Astros at Rogers Centre. The final score was 9-1. Left Fielder Alfredo Salinas, who finished 2nd in the AL in slugging percentage with .562 last year, had a standout performance. Robert Stephenson was the winner. He's now 1-0. The loser was former first round draft pick Mike Cunningham. Juan Pérez picked up the save, his 1st.

With Toronto leading 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Salinas hit a curveball from Andres Sanchez for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 7-1.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Salinas, "and then get after the next one."
