Rays Fall to Cardinals, 4-2
|
The Cardinals grabbed a win, 4-2, at Busch Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Tampa Bay pitcher Jose Quintana. Quintana went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Jim Crocker earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Carlos A. Salazar picked up the save, his 1st.
St. Louis took a 4-2 lead on Zak Taylor's 2nd home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Taylor hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Tampa Bay pitcher Dan Gardner visibly frustrated.
"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Cardinals manager Aaron Thompson.
The Cardinals, now 2-0, have stormed out of the gates.
