Kansas City center fielder Jimmy Reeves had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Reeves was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs, even as Atlanta beat the Royals, 4-3. Atlanta reliever Joe Byrd was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Mike Long took the loss for Kansas City. Picking up the save was Dan Hicks, his 1st.
Wilmer Flores, who finished 3rd in the AL in batting average with .333 in 2019, helped out the Atlanta cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the first baseman was 2 for 3 with a double.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Flores said.
The loss lowers the Kansas City record to 1-1.
