White Sox Handle Toronto, Snag 5-4 Win
|
The Chicago White Sox did just enough to sneak past the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4, at Rate Field. Chicago first baseman Dominic Smith, in particular, had a standout performance. Steve Peters was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save. Toronto is now 4-5.
Jakson Reetz had a big run-scoring double for the White Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Chicago leading 4-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Albert García, who finished 5th in the AL in strikeouts with 183 in 2023, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the White Sox ahead, 5-2.
"Both teams played hard," said Chicago manager Morgan Ensberg.
