The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Houston Astros, 6-3, at Minute Maid Park. Augusto Ramírez, who finished 3rd in the AL in extra base hits with 67 last year, was a standout performer for Los Angeles. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 3 he knocked in. Los Angeles starter Derek Henderson was credited with the win after throwing 92 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The save was credited to Darren Watkins, his 1st.

Los Angeles grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Ramírez hit a bases-clearing double off Eric Guy. His 2nd double of the season put the Angels out in front, 3-0.

Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
