The New York Yankees weathered an outstanding game by Detroit center fielder Johan Sala to topple the Tigers, 9-7. Sala was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Nate Brown, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 0.2 innings. Jake Barrett, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.

New York used the clutch hitting of Joe Wallace to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to give the Yankees the lead, 8-7. For the game, Wallace had 2 singles and 1 double in 5 at-bats.

"It was terrific getting this win," Wallace said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
