The Colorado Rockies had to overcome a fine effort from San Diego pitcher Ben Burke to win, 5-3, at Petco Park. Burke went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winning pitcher was 26-year old left-handed pitcher Josh Riddle. He tossed 104 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. San Diego now has a record of 8-5.

An inflection point occurred with two out in the top of the seventh. That's when Rockies pinch hitter Christian Walker hit a fastball from Kodi Medeiros for a 2-run single. Just like that, Colorado was up, 4-3.
