The Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees, 3-2. Tampa Bay pitcher and Merrick, New York, native Chris Stephenson led the way. Tampa Bay reliever Joe Montgomery got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Shawn Harris was tagged with the loss. The loss drops the Yankees to 7-6.

The decisive blow was delivered by Joe Engram in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Shawn Harris to win the game for Tampa Bay. The home crowd went nuts.

"We had a chance to win," said New York manager Gary DiSarcina, "but we didn't get it done."
