Astros Stumble, Fall to Mets, 7-1
|
New York and Houston took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
Houston had no answer for New York Mets starter Jeff McCray, who flummoxed Astros hitters as the Mets cruised to victory, 7-1. The Astros fall to 5-8 and continue their lackluster start to the 2026 season.
New York second baseman Lou Smith contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 16th hit of the season and put the Mets ahead, 3-1.
"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Smith.
