John Gant, who finished 2nd in the NL in ERA with 2.52 in 2019, had a strong outing for the Los Angeles Angels against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-0 win. Gant, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Héctor Rosado picked up the save for Los Angeles, his 4th of the year.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Mike Trout? The Los Angeles left fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put the Angels on top, 1-0. For the game, Trout had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Makes our job easier," said Trout, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
The Astros fall to 5-8 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2025 season.
