Mets Come Back Late to Top Astros, 6-4
|
The home team gave the crowd some walk-off drama.
The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros, 6-4. Second Baseman Lou Smith deserved a large share of the credit. Smith went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Mets. The winner was New York reliever Edgardo Castillo, now 1-1. The loser was Erling Moreno.
The decisive blow was delivered by Joe Ellis in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run home run off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Erling Moreno to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.
"This place went bonkers at the end," Ellis said.
With the loss, Houston is 5-10.
