Chicago got a strong outing from José Castaneda as the White Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals, 3-1, at Kauffman Stadium. Castaneda, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Earning his 4th save for Chicago was Steve Peters.
Chicago used a clutch at-bat from António García to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the White Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"José was the difference maker. He was emotionally under control, had good stuff and makeup," said Chicago manager Morgan Ensberg.
The Royals fall to 7-9 and continue their uneven start to the 2026 season.
