New York beat Minnesota at Target Field, eking out a 4-3 win. The triumph was primarily due to first baseman Patrick Vitzhum. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. New York reliever Franklin E. Perez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Jorge Fajardo. With the loss, Minnesota drops to 10-8.

New York used the timely hitting of Deron Fernández to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mets on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Minnesota manager Robin Ventura.
