New York got a strong outing from Juan Mismit as the Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs, 4-2, at Wrigley Field. Mismit yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-3. Edgardo Castillo collected his 6th save.
New York needed the clutch hitting of Lou Smith to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mets on top, 3-1. For the game, Smith had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll kick back a while," said Mismit, "and then get ready for the next one."
The Cubs fall to 8-12 and continue their uneven start to the 2026 season.
