The New York Yankees got a stellar performance from pitcher Ernesto Stainforth, who handcuffed the Boston offense en route to a win, 6-2, at Fenway Park. The Red Sox fall to 10-14 and continue to sputter in the early going.
New York used a clutch at-bat from Israel Ávila to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said New York manager Gary DiSarcina.
