The Los Angeles Angels weathered a fine game by New York first baseman Israel Ávila to upend the Yankees, 5-2, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Ávila was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. The save went to Ron Oliver, his 1st this season. New York falls to 15-11.

Isranel Wilson had a big 2-run home run for the Angels in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from Darwin Ramos, who is tied for 7th in the AL in innings pitched with 33.2, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Angels on top, 4-1.

Wilson told a Los Angeles News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
