Diamondbacks Earn Clutch Win, 5-4
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks faced a tough opponent in San Diego pitcher Wing-chiu Chin, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Chase Field by a final score of 5-4. Chin went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Jorge Gonzáles, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-2. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1 innings. Arizona sits at 15-11.
The decisive blow was delivered by Jorge Aguilar in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Huff to win the game for Arizona. The home crowd went nuts.
Arizona manager Jake Mauer was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
