Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Guardians. Boston won it, 3-0. Boston starter Mario Rodríguez was in command. Boston reliever Tim McKnight was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Sandor Visser took the loss. The Guardians, now 9-17, continue their inauspicious start.

Boston used the timely hitting of Mookie Betts to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Mario is a tough competitor," said Boston manager Alvin Morman.
