Nationals Handle New York, Snag 7-4 Win
Kirk Griffith, who is tied for 8th in the NL with a 1.16 WHIP, was locked in. The right-hander led the Washington Nationals to a 7-4 win against the New York Mets at Nationals Park. The winner was Griffith. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was José Ferrer. The save was credited to Robbie McJannett, his 7th.

Washington took a 6-4 lead on Jeremy Austin's 6th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Austin hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Kyle Crick visibly frustrated.

"Kirk gave us a heck of an effort," said Washington manager Mark Grudzielanek.

The win gives Washington a record of 18-11.
