Burrell Smacks 3 Out of the Park
Friday, July 18th , 2025
State College Spikes left fielder Greg Burrell sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Burrell told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Burrell pushed the Spikes past the Scrappers, 9-5. To go along with the homers, he collected 8 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Burrell told reporters after the game.
Greg Burrell struck out in the 2nd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Raúl Villalobos in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Clint Washington in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Steve Richards in the 9th.
This season, Burrell has delivered 40 hits in 131 at-bats for a .305 average with 9 home runs. He is getting on base at a .403 clip and his totals also include 36 RBIs and 20 runs scored. This year Burrell has played in 43 games.
