Matz Spins 2-0 Shutout Against St. Louis Sunday, August 31st , 2025 Cincinnati Reds starter Steven Matz really did a number on the St. Louis Cardinals, shutting them out, 2-0, on 3 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 6 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said St. Louis manager Ty Van Burkleo. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Matz."
