Detroit Loses Mendoza, Out 6 Weeks Friday, June 19th , 2026 Tomás Mendoza will have to wait a while longer. The Detroit closer was informed this afternoon that he will miss another 6 weeks with a strained abdominal muscle. The injury has kept him off the field since 06/17/2026. Though Mendoza had hoped to return soon, he has no choice but to be patient. "Gotta stay focused," he said. "Gotta stay positive." Looking at his pitching stats this season, Mendoza has made 34 relief appearances, pitched 32.1 innings and fashioned a 1-2 record with a 1.39 ERA. He has recorded 28 saves, struck out 42 and allowed opposing clubs to hit .175 when he is on the hill. |
